My name is Jana Jonhardsdóttir I was born and raised in the Faroe Islands, a small country located between Norway and Iceland. I have a BA in Contemporary Arts and an MA in Fine Arts from the university of Bath Spa Art and Design.
I am a freelance Designer – Graphic Designer
In my studio practice I aim to work between the lines of documentation and fiction. How these play of each other and how the work together particularly when it relates to nature and the psychological term Nature Connectedness also known as Biophilia, the hypothesis suggests that humans have an innate drive to seek connections with nature. This drive leads us to romanticise nature and shy away from the more chaotic aspects such as death and suffering.
Documentation filtered through fiction mimics reality with a slight shift towards the idyll.
In my studio practice I apply what I stated above through photographic mediums with scientific methods such as satellite mapping and psychological collage methods, all which would be considered documentation. The fiction is channelled with the manipulation of the images and different printing methods such as screen printing and using my instincts for the layout and final outcome. The sculptural aspects are created with this in mind and are a highly intuitive process.
